Few organizations are as fundamental to a community as a library.
As a lawyer, educator, author, small business owner, and mother, libraries have always been an integral part of my and my children’s lives. As a member of the Josephine Community Library Board, I know just how indispensable our library services are for our community. I'm proud to be fighting for services that invest in the people of Josephine County. Everyone in our community, regardless of age, background, socioeconomic status, political belief, identity, or education level deserves access to resources and opportunities to thrive, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that these resources and opportunities are not only protected, but expanded, if reelected.
Nevertheless, our libraries are again under threat by county officials taking actions that could force closure, reduce services, and destabilize library operations. In 1997, the Josephine County Commissioners appropriated the library's 33 cent tax levy. In 2007, they forced our library to close by defunding it. It is thanks to the hard-working and passionate members of our community who came together to build the Josephine Community Library District that library services continue today. Now, as we negotiate the attempted lease termination of the Grants Pass branch, it is crucial that we elect and maintain strong leadership who value investing in our community, and expanding—not cutting—library services.
A thriving community starts with a strong library.
