Libraries for Our Community stands for fiscal responsibility, sustainable growth, and strong public libraries. Join us in supporting candidates who share this vision!

This effort is supported by Libraries for Our Community PAC #14992, originally formed in 2012 under the name Keep Our Libraries Open. We led two efforts at the ballot to form a district, the first one failing and the second one winning permanent funding for the library system in 2017. After the formation of the district, the PAC changed its name to Libraries for Our Community. We are the watchdogs of nonpartisan leadership in an increasingly partisan world. We support the expansion of the library district to better serve all residents of Josephine County.

Here in Josephine County, we have a tradition of loving our libraries. When they closed, we opened them. When they needed new books and materials, we donated to them. And when they needed volunteers, we stepped up.

Our libraries endure because they ensure access to knowledge, culture, and community, but they can only do so if we ensure the freedom to read and learn.

In Josephine County, our libraries are under attack. Local opposition is undermining these essential community resources by leveraging opt-out strategies to withdraw crucial funding and by terminating leases with just 30 days’ notice—leading to eviction and putting taxpayers’ investments at risk. As the American Library Association states in their Freedom to Read Statement, libraries are more than buildings; they are vital civic spaces that empower our community with knowledge and resources.

Most attempts at suppression rest on a denial of the fundamental premise of democracy: that the ordinary individual, by exercising critical judgment, will select the good and reject the bad.
